Among the most widely investigated probiotics against H. pylori, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium call for special attention due to their extensive beneficial effects on the host, including promotion of gut maturation and integrity, antagonism against pathogens, and modulation of the immune system.

Green Mediterranean diet protective against brain atrophy

Mediterranean diet is one of the most popularly known healthy diets, This eating style limits red meat, processed foods, and added sugars, and registered dietitians tend to praise the plan for its heart and weight benefits.

A Green-MED, high-polyphenol diet rich in Mankai, green tea, and walnuts and low in red/processed meat has been demonstrated in a new study to be possibly neuroprotective for age-related brain atrophy. This study was conducted by Alon Kaplan and team, results of which were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition on 11th January, 2022.

Dietary effects on age-related brain shrinkage are mainly unknown. The researchers set out to investigate the effect of a Mediterranean diet high in polyphenols and low in red/processed meat (Green-MED diet) on age-related brain shrinkage.

Too Much Giloy Without Prescription Can be harmful

Covid has immensly affected immune system and those with weaker immune system were more prone for infection, know-it-all doctors and 'medical experts' claimed that 'giloy' was an immunity booster that would help fight the virus. Almost overnight, the sales of Giloy rocketed and people started taking it without any medical consultation.

Now two years later, a study recently published in Hepatology Communications, the official journal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, has found that consumption of 'giloy' without prescription and monitoring can cause damage to organs such as the liver.

School closures improves quality of life for adolescents

Amidst the pandemic schools colleges had to be shut to contain the infection, and this had lot effect on children, with a negative effect on the health and well-being of many young people.

But homeschooling also had a positive flipside: Thanks to sleeping longer in the morning, many teenagers reported improved health and health-related quality of life. The study authors from the University of Zurich therefore believe school days should begin later in the morning.

Study reported that the students got about 75 minutes more sleep per day during the lockdown. At the same time, their health-related quality of life improved significantly and their consumption of alcohol and caffeine went down, because they no longer had to travel to school, they were able to get up later.
