5 Costco Recalls You Need to Know About Right Now — Eat This Not That - Eat This, Not That

There are a few things that every Costco member should always be aware of—what's currently on sale, what's in the bakery section, and what's flying off of shelves right now. Knowing what products are part of new recalls is also important because it could prevent you or your family from getting sick.

And there are several recalls to know about before your next trip to the warehouse. Luckily, the chain conveniently reports them on its website, and we've detailed them for you all in one place. (Related: Costco Foods You Should Always Avoid, According to Nutritionists)

If you do have one of these products in your kitchen, stop eating it immediately. Return it to Costco for a full refund, then follow these two steps to sanitize your kitchen so no one contracts a foodborne illness.

These frozen treats were recently recalled because they "may contain very small metallic fragments," according to the manufacturer. Boxes of the Mixed Bery & Peach Less Sugar (16 pack), the Vanilla & Strawberry (16 pack), and the Vanilla & Strawberry Minis (24 pack) were reportedly sold as early as February 2021. There are no reported injuries or illnesses related to the treats.

"People with tree nut allergies may have a life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product."

The bags of blueberries were sold in Arkansas, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. There are no reports of any illnesses due to the mislabeling, but if you do have them in your home, you should stop eating them immediately.

Thanks to its membership system, Costco can identify which customers purchased recalled items. That's how they delivered the information to members who bought 22.5-ounce jars of Tin Star Foods 100% Grassfed Ghee between March 19 and May 27 of this year. The recall was recently posted on the Costco website after Tin Star Foods detected a quality issue that shortened the shelf life of the product.

Two recalls for beans sold at Costco and other retail stores were announced in the last two months because the cans may have a compromised hermetic seal that could leak, bloat, or allow harmful bacteria like Clostridium botulinum to grow. The first recall was issued in late April, and a second followed in mid-May.

Sixteen lot numbers and three types of beans were involved, including O Organics Organic Black Beans, O Organics Organic Chili Beans, and S&W Organic Black Beans. The impacted beans were sold as far back as August 2020 at Costco stores in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

"Symptoms [of a Clostridium botulinum infection] may include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and muscle weakness. Botulism poisoning can cause paralysis of the breathing muscles, which can result in death unless assistance with breathing (mechanical ventilation) is provided," the recall notice said.
