According to reports, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they've traced the source of infections to "red, white and yellow whole onions distributed throughout the U.S. by ProSource Inc.," to an outbreak of the bacterial disease.
The CDC shared that 652 people have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg from 37 states as of October 18th.
Giving advice, the CDC said: "Throw away any whole red, white, or yellow onions you have at home that do not have a sticker or packaging.
"If you can't tell where the onions are from, don't buy or eat them."
As per USAToday, affected onion types include jumbo, colossal, medium, and sweet onions.

Thoroughly cooking foods, like meat and poultry, can kill bacteria.
However, in this case of onion recall, shoppers are being urged to "return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or throw them out."
To further avoid the bacteria spread, keep surfaces clean, wash hands regularly, separate fruits and vegetables from poultry, and cook meat at a high enough temperature to kill germs. CDC recommends an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
